The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has designated the month of January as Radon Action Month.

Radon is a naturally-caused, odorless and tasteless radioactive gas, which can be present in air or your water supply. Radon can increase the risk of cancer if the levels in your home exceed the recommended levels as outlined by the EPA. In fact, the EPA says that Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers and the second leading cause of lung cancer in America.

The EPA has outlined four steps for homeowners to take action against Radon this month. The first step is to test your home for radon. We encourage you to come by our showroom off Route 109A in Wolfeboro to pick up your free water test kit. You can also email or call our office at (888)551-4545 with your questions and concerns.

For More information about Radon Action Month visit the EPA Website:

On every water heater, a warning label clearly outlines the dangers of improper installation. The warning label reads:
Warning - Explosion Hazard
If the temperature and pressure relief valve is dripping or leaking, have a licensed plumber repair it.
Do not plug valve.
Do not remove valve.

Failure to follow these instructions can result in death or explosion.

This warning label should be self-explanatory, but homeowners may choose to cut costs and avoid paying for a Licensed Plumber to address their water heater issues. Or, some plumbers may not be adequately licensed, or may not follow plumbing laws and regulations.

Mythbusters recently tested the possiblity of a water heater exploding due to improper installation. Their discovery, which has proved true for a few homeowners, is surprising. See what could happen if a water heater is not properly installed - Watch the video on YouTube:

To ensure the safety and welfare of your family, we recommend that you Check The Credentials of the companies hired to work in your home. You may want to inquire about their experience, or even ask them for their license number.

Today we offered a free seminar regarding vital information for home buyers and sellers. The seminar addressed water quality issues that could delay home closings, such as arsenic, radon, and bacteria.

Attendees enjoyed refreshments and received an exclusive packet of information regarding many water quality issues, health concerns, their solutions, estimated costs, and associated timelines.

We had a great turnout! If you were unable to attend and would like more information, please contact our office at 1-888-551-4545 or thursty@thurstywater.com.

At Thursty Water Electrical, Plumbing, Heating & HVAC we work hard to provide quality customer service. With maintaining our company's integrity, we also encourage our customers to do your research from a homeowner's perspective, to ensure your home service needs are properly addressed.

For example, last week a potential customer came to us with an invoice and estimate from one of our competitors in the industry. The invoice and estimate addressed the homeowner's emergency of having no water in their home.

This competitor is a well-known company that diagnosed the homeowner's no water issue as a problem with their well pump. The company quoted the customer a total of $8355.66 to fix all of the possible issues, with charges as high as $190.82 to simply seal the homeowner's well cap. Even being in the field and having experience, I was shocked at the overwhelming prices to address the homeowner's water problems. I was also surprised to see what this company suggested in order to fix the problems; some of the quoted solutions are unnecessary and have no bearing on well pump issues in general, such as replacing the 44 gallon well tank. I've posted a copy of the actual invoice and estimate, so you can have a look yourself.

What would you do if this was your bill?No Water Call Invoice

At Thursty Water Electrical, Plumbing, Heating & HVAC, we encourage our customers to do their research, especially in events such as this. Fortunately, these homeowners decided to seek alternate advice about their water problems. They discovered that the real cause of their problems was easy and inexpensive to fix - something that the technician on site failed to recognize.

In actuality, an outside faucet had been left on, which caused the well to run dry. When the outside faucet was turned off, and the homeowners allowed enough time for the well to refill, they had water once again. This homeowner was quoted up to $8355.66 to fix well pump issues that did not exist.

To better serve our customers and avoid conflicts such as this within our own business, Thursty Water Electrical, Plumbing, Heating & HVAC has always worked hard to properly diagnose and fix problems first, before recommending part replacements.

We understand that homeowners are responsible to maintain their homes and ensure their family's safety. Likewise, as business owners, we are responsible for providing our customers with thorough, honest work to help with this process.

Remember to do your research, and avoid situations such as this homeowner.

Our customers often ask us questions about the necessity of having pure, quality water in their homes.

The fact is that some of the most harmful contaminants in your water can be odorless, colorless, and undetectable.

Unfortunately, as the news has recently released, consumers may also be unaware of the possible impurity of bottled water.
